Projects / Residential / FF House
The possibility of spatial variety motivated us in the design of this house, located on a quiet street in the center of the city of Santa Rosa de Viterbo, in the interior of the state of Sao Paulo. Such variety could highlight different strategies, desirable for the lives of those who live there. A house can establish a dialogue with the city landscape, whether through interfaces, the “thresholds”, or through careful cuts and views.
The sunlight and topography conditions led us to place the building on one side of the lot, which frees up more internal space, providing a strategic gap that connects the living spaces with the sheltered spaces. The living room opens onto a shaded garden. In addition to lighting the house, the garden provides natural ventilation and a view of the sky.
The house have two bedroons on the ground floor, which configures the independence of the floor: the house, despite having two floors, happens mainly on the ground. To avoid underutilized corridor areas, two axes were designed in the longitudinal direction of the house: to the north, the closed areas (washroom, stairs, bedrooms and laundry); to the south, the open spaces integrated with the garden (garage, living rooms and kitchen). On the upper floor, there is a bedroom, facing east, with a floor-to-ceiling window, protected by wooden lattices that run externally. To guarantee a view of a garden from this space, a concrete planter occupies the front recess, above the gates that access the house. The gates, brises, were designed as a filter to allow the view from inside and allow the garden to overcome barriers, nullifying them. To the west, there is access to a terrace, with a view of the city and the interior of the house.
The construction system strategically uses four materials: concrete, brick, wood and glass. The aesthetics of the residence are the materials themselves, used without coverings, exposing the beauty of the technique. The transparencies are equally carefully designed, defining degrees of translucency appropriate to each space: tempered glass in the living rooms, kitchen and bedrooms; “milky” glass in the bathrooms; and “c-glass” panels on the stairs and garage.
